Cool USB flash drive press kit designs

I get a lot of press kits on USB drives. A decade ago, when they replaced paper kits (thank goodness), they were uninspired and utilitarian, and they often stored as little as 256 MB of information, so they didn’t hold much interest even in re-use. Now, even a standard stick drive can contain 2 to 4 GB and they compete to be memorable. Even though they publicize American attractions, nearly all of them are still made in China.
I saved a few of my favorites.
- The classic thumb drive design for a serious subject (FYI, it’s in New Orleans).
- This is the most typical design for a thumb drive. Most press kits look like this. It’s simple and it works.
- California rendered its press kit as a beach buggy. I think. Whatever it is, it’s cool, and I want to play with it. The hood detaches for the USB stem.
- In the mid-’00s, the staid USB design began to morph into something more pleasingly bulbous.
- Cunard, as befits its product, opts for style: a leather-sheathed thumb drive.
- Michelin does it slightly Deco, of course
- Press a switch and Jersey City’s USB drive pops out from under the cockpit.
- In the middle aught years, Florida opted for the natural look: wood body, magnetized lid.
- The business card reborn as a USB drive. Classic/impractical/great!
- SeaWorld Orlando’s press kit is a fanciful version of Shamu’s tail.
- The first iteration of Disneyland’s Cars Land drive, in 2011, sprang from the lines of a 1960s bumper.
- Disneyland’s Cars Land drive is now a cheerful rubberized version of Lightning McQueen.
- One of the most exclusive hotels in America renders its drive as a business card with a tentacled drive.
- Disney’s Dream press kit was a toy version of the ship it promoted.
- Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas drive decoyed as a very thick business card…
- …but once unfolded, origami-style, the USB plug was revealed. The most elaborate USB kit I have received.
Who knows — maybe I’ll add more cool designs as I run across them.
